S&G Compilations Compared

There are many collections of Simon & Garfunkel's material. Since I could not find a resource that compared them, I decided to create one. Aside from helping listeners choose a compilation or two, it reveals which songs the duo, their studios, and their public seem to prioritize.
To save space, I only used key words from some of the compilations’ and song’s titles; GH is short for Greatest Hits, and (V)BO is short for (Very) Best Of. To avoid confusion, as some of the compilations’ names are similar, I included the year of each compilation’s release.
Greatest Hits and Best Of compilations are on one chart, while comprehensive box sets (with all five Simon & Garfunkel albums included) are presented on their own charts with only the “bonus” material compared.
What’s here: Simon & Garfunkel’s studio recordings and Simon & Garfunkel’s live recordings, both Pre- and Post-Breakup (the post-break-up ones include songs from Simon’s solo career, so have to be considered separately).
What’s not here: pre-Simon & Garfunkel work, and some obscure/unofficial compilations created by third parties.

Simon & Garfunkel: Studio Recordings
Notes:
-AllMusic.com lists a compilation called Definitive released in 2004. I believe this is an error, since they do not list the Definitive from 1992, and no other source lists a Definitive from 2004.
-Wikipedia lists a 2002 compilation called The Collection on the Sonic label, but I can find nothing more about it. In any case, it is not to be confused with the box set called The Collection released by Columbia in 2007.
-Amazon sells a compilation called Playlist (2014) which it explains (admits) is “a repackaging of the… (1972) Greatest Hits release.”
There are also two compilations for which it makes more sense to say what is not included:
1. Old Friends (1997)— not to be confused with Old Friends: Live on Stage— is very nearly comprehensive. It contains all of the material from the 5 S&G albums except some covers, “The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine,” and “…Philippic.” It does add some covers (modern and traditional), Christmas carols, the singles “You Don’t Know Where Your Interest Lies” and “A Church is Burning,” the pre-S&G track “Hey Schoolgirl,”
the reunion track “My Little Town,” and the written-for-others “Red Rubber Ball.”
2. Tales from New York: The Very Best of Simon & Garfunkel (2002) is also nearly comprehensive. It contains all of the material from the 5 S&G albums except some covers and these tracks: “Bleecker St.,” “Sparrow,” “Blessed,” “7 O’Clock News,” “Somewhere They Can’t Find Me,” “Richard Cory,” “A Most Peculiar Man,” “…Pleasure Machine,” “…Philippic,” and “Why Don’t You Write Me.” It does add the single “You Don’t Know Where Your Interest Lies” and the reunion track “My Little Town.”

Simon & Garfunkel: Comprehensive Box Sets
-Two compilations contain nearly all five of Simon & Garfunkel’s studio albums— Old Friends (1997) and Tales from New York (2002). For those, it was easier to list the tracks they didn’t contain. That information is listed above the chart labeled “Simon & Garfunkel: Studio Recordings,” earlier on this page.
-The Collected Works set contains no additional material, either on the 1981 LP version or the 1990 CD version.
-The Collection (2007) is exactly the same as, and contains the same bonus tracks as, the Columbia Studio Recordings (1964-1970) box, released in 2001, with the addition of Concert in Central Park.
-The Complete Albums Collection (2014) contains all five of Simon & Garfunkel’s studio albums, their 1972 Greatest Hits, and four concert albums: Live From New York City 1967; Live 1969; The Concert in Central Park; and Old Friends: Live On Stage.

Note: As the two sets below all contain all five of Simon & Garfunkel’s studio albums, this chart only lists what additional material they contain.
