Paul Simon has recorded under other names, especially during his early career:
-Jerry Landis (the Jerry in Tom and Jerry, to Garfunkel's "Tom Garr" or "Tom Graph.")
-Paul Kane
-True Taylor (very rarely)
Aside from his partnership with Garfunkel, Simon also recorded as part of:
-Tico and the Triumphs (he was not Tico; that was Marty Cooper)
-The Mystics (for just three songs)
-The Cosines (with Carole King)
Why didn't Carole King sing with Tico and the Triumphs? Carole had recorded Baby Sitten in 1958 (a do-wop style song). davidroadman2@gmail.com. Mobile 508 776-5068. Have Carole King induct Neil Sedaka into the Rock hn Roll Hall of Fame!
ReplyDeleteAnon-- I can't answer your question definitively as I was not there... but I can guess. Today, it is common to see men and women singing together in the same band, either with one singing lead and the other singing backup, or both harmonizing. Especially in country music and jazz. However, even there, a man and woman sharing vocals is often a special event (Think Louis and Ella).
ReplyDeleteBack then, I can't think of a single band or act that had both men and women singing together as a group. There were solo men, groups of men (as in doo-wop), solo women, and groups of women (the "girl groups.")
But men and women together? Nothing comes to mind, and even if you can think of some examples, that seems clearly not the norm.
