Re-listening to great songs is like visiting with, to borrow an expression, old friends.Another Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17490204558031016152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824464142604361129.post-37555163280547212982022-06-20T10:59:02.682-07:002022-06-20T10:59:02.682-07:00I answered the challenge you posed, attempting to ...I answered the challenge you posed, attempting to write my own take on Richard Corey after having been introduced to the poem in high school -- and then told Simon had done his own version. After finally getting to hear Simon's version, I tried my hand at my own. Sadly, that was several decades ago, and all I remember from my version:

"And we shed some tears
And raised some beers
To poor ol' Richard Corey."

I'm not as good of a poet as Robinson or Simon, sadly.

Thanks for the blog. I stumbled across it looking for takes on "The Cool Cool River" and now I'm sitting here going through each song and reading your words. It's been a while since I've really had a chance to sit down and listen to Simon's stuff, so it's rather fun. Thank you for that.katsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10800463926121682011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824464142604361129.post-56588319376409233862019-11-30T17:58:41.871-08:002019-11-30T17:58:41.871-08:00Gerkuman-- I think a lot of artists look back on t...Gerkuman-- I think a lot of artists look back on their early work and are sometimes embarrassed by it. To the second Anon-- ...To the first Anon-- Thanks!

To the second Anon-- Well, regardless of Simon's own assessment, Paul McCartney covered it. I will take you at your word, and add this to the list of Simon's least favorite of his own work, alongside "I Am a Rock" and "Dangling Conversation."Another Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17490204558031016152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824464142604361129.post-12608478651745069482012-03-30T13:26:46.097-07:002012-03-30T13:26:46.097-07:00I heard Simon say in an interview some years back ...I heard Simon say in an interview some years back that this song was really bad. He thought the poem was forgettable to begin with, but the song didn't even rise to the level of the poem. I don't think it's the worst of S & G, but I'm inclined to side with Simon on this one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7824464142604361129.post-8060960242437770372010-10-03T02:20:42.758-07:002010-10-03T02:20:42.758-07:00Thank you so much.
